Das heutige mazedonische Volk lebt seit der slawischen Besiedlung Südost-Europas im 6. und 7. Jahrhundert auf dem Balkan. Seine Geschichte wurde nach dem Berliner Kongress 1878 verdrängt und geriet in Vergessenheit. Auf der Basis unveröffentlichter Akten des Deutschen Reiches wird die eigene ununterbrochene Identität der Mazedonier nachgewiesen. Die Berichte der deutschen Missionen beweisen, dass die noch heute erhobenen Ansprüche der Nachbarstaaten auf den mazedonischen Namen, auf die Sprache und das Territorium aus der Zeit und dem Geist des Imperialismus stammen. Gleichzeitig enthüllen die Akten, wie eng die Vorgänge um den Balkanbund mit den Intrigen der Entente zur Auslösung des Ersten Weltkriegs zusammenhingen.
