Das Gebiet der "Seelenkrankheiten" erscheint wohlgeordnet in drei Blacken: Neurose, Psychose, psychosomatische Medizin - wobei die Neurose als Stammland der Psychoanalyse gilt. Von diesem Stamm land aus, so ist die allgemeine Meinung - hat sie ihre Exkursionen und ihre Expansion in die anderen Bereiche vorangetrieben und vor anzutreiben. Fili die Gegenwart trifft diese Sicht gewiB zu. Freilich ist diese "Gegenwart" erst ein paar Jahrzehnte alt. Urspriinglich, und das solI heiBen in den Ursprungszeiten der Psychoanalyse, verhielt es sich ganz anders, bildeten die heutzutage wohl sortierten Bereiche ei ne einzige ununterscheidbare Einheit. Charcot fand in der Salpetriere ein Asyl fiir einige tausend kranker und armer Frauen vor. Er erst machte sich daran, Unterscheidungen einzuziehen zwischen neurologischen und "hysterischen" Kranken, zwischen Karperkranken und Geisteskranken. Bernheim, dieser an derer Lehrer Freuds auf dem Weg zur Neurosenbehandlung, stand ei ner "inneren" Klinik vor, und Liebault war schlicht Dorfarzt. Auch der Grund"fall" der Psychoanalyse in ihren kathartischen Ursprungs stadium - der "Fall Anna 0." - bot Symptome aller drei Bereiche; man hatte zur Behandlung der Patienten ja ganz einfach den Haus arzt der Familie, Dr. Breuer, geholt.
