Wohl kaum ein Aspekt des deutsch-sowjetischen Krieges von 1941 bis 1945 provoziert in Deutschland und Russland bis heute so große Emotionen wie der Partisanenkrieg. Im deutschen Gedächtnis blieben die Partisanen als grausame und hinterhältige Feinde lebendig, während die Sowjetunion einen bis heute unerschütterten Heldenmythos um sie wob, der auch im Westen bis in die Forschung hinein Wirkung gezeigt hat. Historisch verlässliche Kenntnisse hingegen blieben weitgehend Mangelware. Das wird mit Bogdan Musials neuem Buch anders. Er hat in russischen und weißrussischen Archiven eine Vielzahl neuer, bisher unbekannter Quellen erschlossen. Auf sie gestützt, beschreibt er vor dem Hintergrund der deutschen Besatzungspolitik Entstehung, Ziele, Organisation und Operationen der sowjetischen Partisanenbewegung. Den Schwerpunkt seiner umfassenden Darstellung bildet Weißrussland, das Zentrum der Partisanen und des Partisanenkrieges. Völlig neues Licht wirft Musial auf das Verhalten der Partisanen gegen-über der eigenen Bevölkerung. Es war, wie er zeigt, sehr häufig von Gewalt be-gleitet. Plünderungen und Morde waren keine Ausnahmeerscheinungen. Die militärische Effizienz der Partisanen sowie ihre immer skrupelloser werdende Bekämpfung durch die deutsche Besatzungsmacht sind weitere gewichtige Themen des Buches, das auch das Schicksal der Frauen unter den Partisanen und die Rolle jüdischer Partisanenorganisationen beleuchtet. Ein aufregendes Buch, das den Mythos einer das ganze Volk umfassenden und von ihm getragenen einheitlichen Partisanenbewegung hinterfragt.
