Die Autorin untersucht das verlegerische Umfeld und den Markt solcher Publikationen bei Georg Westermann, Georg Fischer und Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. Es zeigt sich, dass solche Inhalte im konservativ-bürgerlichen Milieu der im Kaiserreich sozialisierten Verleger anschlussfähig waren. Wirtschaftlichen Erfolg hatten diese Bücher jedoch kaum.
