Nora Mengels Untersuchung des Biographischen Lexikons des Kaiserthums Oesterreich (BLKO) und des Russkij Biograficeskij Slovar' (RBS) zeigt erstmals, dass die biographischen Grossprojekte des ausgehenden Habsburger und Russlandischen Reichs auf einem spezifisch imperialen Gesamtstaatsbewusstsein basierten. Prazise und konsequent wird aufgezeigt, wie dieses, unter Anleitung der Lexikographen Constantin von Wurzbach und Aleksandr A. Polovcov, aus einer Vielzahl an facettenreichen Lebenswelten und -wegen der imperialen Eliten und den damit verbundenen Narrativen gebildet und gepragt worden ist.
