Karl Radek (1885?-?1939), linksradikaler Journalist und brillanter Demagoge des Sowjetkommunismus, verstand sich als Soldat der Weltrevolution. Er wollte helfen, sie als ehernes Muss der Geschichte zu vollstrecken. In der polnischen und deutschen Sozialdemokratie politisch sozialisiert, schloss er sich Lenin an, stellte sich in den Dienst der Oktoberrevolution und widmete sich der Revolutionierung Deutschlands und Chinas. Das Buch zeichnet seinen abenteuerlichen Lebensweg nach und geht detailliert auf Radeks politisches Wirken und publizistisches OEuvre ein. Als Spiritus rector und Propagandist des roten Terrors wirkte er hochst aktiv an der Errichtung der Sowjetdiktatur mit. Die Terrormaschine, die er zu schaffen half und der er zuletzt noch seine politischen Freunde auslieferte, hat ihn schliesslich selbst vernichtet. In der Stalin-Ara aus dem kollektiven Gedachtnis getilgt, wurde er zur Unperson. Sein Schicksal demonstriert exemplarisch die tragische Verstrickung eines Menschen in den politischen Totalitarismus als Phanomen der Moderne.
