Auch heute noch ist die Meinung anzutreffen, die betriebswirtschaftliche Theo rie sei eine esoterische Elfenbeinturm-Disziplin, die sich lediglich als Instrument zur Erklarung von Untemehmensablaufen, d. d. zur Befriedigung intellektueller Neu gier verstehe. DemgemaB wird der Untemehmenstheorie vielfach eine praktisch orientierte Betriebswirtschaftslehre gegentibergestellt. Diese Polarisierung mag in der ersten Nachkriegszeit ihre Berechtigung gehabt ha ben, als sich die Untemehmenstheorie erstmals systematisch etablierte. Denn in der Tat hat man damals, auf der von Wilhelm Rieger geschaffenen Tradition aufbau end, den Sinn der Untemehmenstheorie in der Erkliirung von Unternehmensabliiu fen gesehen. Aber vor 25 Jahren setzte in der Betriebswirtschaftslehre ein Umschwung ein: Man begann, die in der Untemehmenstheorie abgeleiteten Aussagen als Instrumente un temehmerischer Entscheidungen zu betrachten. Der Leser denke nur an die groBar tigen wissenschaftlichen Leistungen der 60er und 70er Jahre in der Herausarbeitung von linearen und nicht linearen Optimierungsmodellen. Damals hat sich auch der Ansatz einer betriebswirtschaftlichen Entscheidungstheorie herausgebildet - er wurde als normative Theorie der erklarenden Untemehmenstheorie zur Seite ge stellt.
