Description

Product Description This book articulates a practice and theory of education that aims to facilitate the emergence of sustainable peace and conflict-resilient communities in societies plagued by conflict. It does so by examining the agency of conflict-resilient communities and the dynamic processes of their interactions with larger societal structure. Although education is seen as a human right, the design of education policies, schooling models and curricula has primarily been the prerogative of elites, be they governments, academics or international actors. This book argues for a different approach to education, contending for more inclusivity and open deliberation in modeling education frameworks. Drawing on case studies and interviews with practitioners, scholars, activists, and policymakers, it applies the lenses of conflict resolution to a variety of education issues within fragile societies. Review “Education for Sustainable Peace and Conflict Resilient Communities is a remarkable book that opens conflict resolution approaches to the complex dynamism of societies taking control of their own destiny. Conflict is not a destiny. Education plays a crucial role in the becoming of societies committed to resilience. Peace is actually not only sustainable but sustaining and education is the pathway for societies to discover how their commitment to self-correction is creating conditions for just and inclusive stability. This book innovates wisely: it is a must read for anyone interested in education systems and peace.” (Andrea Bartoli, Dean, School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Seton Hall University, USA) “Borislava Manojlovic’s book is very timely, thorough and insightful. For anybody who wants to know more about education for sustainable peace, this is a book they cannot afford to ignore. It is a thought-provoking study of current educational practices and what the education can be.” (Zheng Wang, Professor and Director, Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Seton Hall University, USA) From the Back Cover This book articulates a practice and theory of education that aims to facilitate the emergence of sustainable peace and conflict-resilient communities in societies plagued by conflict.
