Die zona bonaerense ist eine der wenigen Regionen innerhalb der spanischsprachigen Welt, in denen die Entwicklung der Palatale zur Koexistenz einer stimmhaften und stimmlosen präpalatalen Lautvariante geführt hat und dem Sprachraum damit aus phonetischer Sicht eine Sonderstellung zukommen lässt. Dies ist zwar ein bekanntes und bereits vielfach abgehandeltes Thema, das jedoch nichts an Aktualität eingebüßt hat: Es handelt sich um ein höchst dynamisches Phänomen, das nicht nur mit Blick auf Argentinien insgesamt auf neue Regionen übergreift, sondern das sich vor allem in Wechselwirkung mit einem von Mobilität geprägten Sprachraum wie der Stadt nach wie vor im Wandel befindet. Inwieweit lassen sich innerhalb einer Metropole aber tatsächlich räumlich gebundene Unterschiede in der Präsenz einzelner lautlicher Varianten ausmachen? Die vorliegende Studie geht dieser Fragestellung nach und fokussiert aus diasystematischer Perspektive die synchrone Distribution von ʒeísmo und ʃeísmo in der argentinischen Hauptstadt Buenos Aires. Dabei liegt ihr eine stadtdialektologisch und soziolinguistisch ausgerichtete empirische Untersuchung zu Grunde, die die lautlichen Realisierungen verschiedener Sprechergruppen, welche als barrio-charakteristische Größe jeweils ein spezifisches Fragment des jeweiligen Stadtteillebens repräsentieren, in den Blick nimmt. Die Ergebnisse werden kartographisch aufbereitet und vor dem theoretischen Hintergrund bisheriger und teils kontrovers diskutierter Forschungsbeiträge wissenschaftsgeschichtlich eingebettet und bewertet. Variation wird dabei sowohl mit gruppen- und ortsspezifischen Faktoren in Verbindung gebracht als auch unter Berücksichtigung möglicher pragmatischer Auslösestrukturen erörtert.
