Along with investigators at the University of Calgary, he has established a program of clinical research in the field of adult and adolescent substance abuse with particular focus on the interaction of psychiatric disorders and substance use, the continuing medical education of health professionals, and treatment outcome and aspects of gambling problems. He has served as President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and International Society of Addiction Medicine.  He is currently Chief Examiner, International Society of Addiction Medicine. Giuseppe Carrà, M.D., M.Sc., Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Milano Bicocca-I and a Research Associate at the UCL Division of Psychiatry in London.
