Les questions sociales, économiques, constructives, environnementales et climatiques qui, au début du XXIe siècle, ont remis en question les fondements du projet d'architecture, constituent l'arrière-plan théorique des événements consacrés à la villa que Le Corbusier et Pierre Jeanneret ont construite à Carthage pour le compte de Lucien Baizeau, de Blanche Thiéblin et de leur famille. Le livre est organisé selon deux perspectives d'analyse complémentaires. La première est consacrée à l'histoire de la villa et permet d'en comprendre pleinement les raisons et les significations, la genèse, l'importance théorique, le rôle du commanditaire et les joies familiales procurées par ses espaces, dans le but également de rassembler les connaissances nécessaires à sa restauration en tant qu'architecture fondamentale du XXe siècle. La deuxième est ouverte à certains des plus grands protagonistes de l'architecture d'aujourd'hui et s'inscrit dans la stratégie culturelle de Le Corbusier, qui a toujours été capable de reconsidérer ses œuvres à la lumière des phénomènes contemporains, même à travers des manipulations graphiques, des inversions de plans et des renversements de photographies, afin d'en découvrir les potentialités inattendues. Grâce à ces deux axes, histoire et projet d'architecture dialoguent en hommage à la vision théorique de Le Corbusier.
