Un splendide panorama des plus belles estampes japonaises. Resté fermé au monde extérieur durant 250 ans, le Japon rouvre ses portes à la fin du xix° siècle. L'Occident découvre alors avec émerveillement les fabuleuses images imprimées venues de cet archipel reculé. Fourmillantes de détails savoureux, ces estampes aux compositions audacieuses et contrastées ont été obtenues grâce à des plaques de bois gravées enduites d'encres colorées. Belles femmes en kimonos chatoyants, scènes de rue, de travail ou de jeu, héros légendaires et créatures fantastiques, paysages époustouflants mêlant cascades, montagnes et cerisiers en fleurs... Signées Kitagawa Utamaro, Utagawa Hiroshige ou Katsushika Hokusai, ces extraordinaires estampes japonaises nous immergent au cœur du quotidien et de l'imaginaire foisonnants du Japon des xvii', xviii° et xix° siècles. Un univers d'un raffinement extrême, qui ne cessera jamais de fasciner... Joséphine Bindé, diplômée de la Sorbonne et de l'École Normale Supérieure (Ulm) de Paris, est journaliste, spécialisée en art. et autrice de plusieurs monographies d'artistes.
