A l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de la disparition de Pablo Picasso, le musée parisien dédié au peintre a invité Sophie Calle à investir l'hôtel Salé. Carte blanche lui est donnée pour déployer son univers dans la totalité du musée. Artiste à la fois conceptuelle et littéraire, Sophie Calle aime brouiller les frontières entre réalité et fiction en déroulant souvent avec humour et légèreté une narration qui lui est propre. Dans ce lieu chargé d'histoire et confrontée à la figure d'un des maîtres de l'art moderne, Sophie Calle a choisi de vider entièrement les espaces - Picasso est expulsé de son musée ! - afin d'y installer d'une part ses meubles et objets personnels dans les étages et d'autre part de dérouler au rez-de-chaussée une fresque imaginée en écho au célèbre Guernica mais composée comme un immense collage des oeuvres qu'elle échange depuis des années avec d'autres artistes. Pour accompagner cette exposition, qu'elle a choisi d'intituler A toi de faire ma mignonne (référence à un livre de Peter Cheyney, virtuose du roman d'espionnage), Sophie Calle a imaginé un ouvrage dans lequel elle énumère ses " rendez-vous " par défaut avec Picasso. De son premier dessin d'enfance qui fit dire à sa grand-mère qu'il y avait un " Picasso " dans la famille, à ses échanges épistolaires avec le voleur du Pigeon aux petits pois, oeuvre dérobée en 2010 au Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris et jamais retrouvée, Sophie Calle se confronte aux tableaux absents du musée. Témoignages des gardiens, tableaux empaquetés durant le confinement, tentative échouée de l'Ecole de New York pour rejouer un Guernica collectif : autant d'histoires déclinées dans cet art du récit si particulier à Sophie Calle. Conçu comme un livre d'artiste, avec son format intimiste et de délicats papiers Bible et de création, Picalso immerge dans l'univers drôle, poétique et singulier d'une figure majeure de l'art contemporain.
