Cet ouvrage présente les cours de conception créés et dispensés à MINES ParisTech depuis vingt ans. Il répond à un double objectif? : préparer les futurs concepteurs (ingénieurs, designers, scientifiques, etc.) aux mutations à l'oeuvre dans l'organisation de l'innovation dans les entreprises - grandes ou petites - et développer un cursus de formation intégrant les plus récentes avancées en termes de théories et de méthodes de conception. Développé en partenariat avec les grandes firmes innovantes et adossé à un programme de recherche fondamentale, cet ouvrage traite des théories, des méthodes et des organisations de la conception. Pour parvenir à une synthèse claire et rigoureuse des travaux les plus récents menés dans de nombreux domaines (créativité, organisation, économie, mathématiques), l'ouvrage part des théories et des modèles formels de la conception et aborde ensuite les méthodes et les organisations des deux régimes de conception qui coexistent dans l'industrie contemporaine : la conception réglée et la conception innovante. Ces fondations théoriques permettent aussi de dépasser les clivages disciplinaires (management, sciences de l'ingénieur, économie) et les clivages professionnels (ingénieurs, designers, comerciaux) en offrant une compréhension partagée de formes d'action collective critiques pour les industries et les sociétés contemporaines.
