Mar Dadisho', surnommé " le Voyant ", est un témoin important de la littérature ascétique et mystique de l'Eglise syro-orientale qui a connu un essor particulièrement riche au VIIe siècle. Presque entièrement inédit jusqu'ici, le Commentaire sur le Paradis des Pères est unique, étant le seul commentaire continu, à l'époque ancienne, de cette collection d'apophtegmes des moines du désert d'Egypte transmise sous le titre de Paradis des Pères, qui est l'un des textes fondateurs du monachisme chrétien. Le Commentaire se présente sous forme de dialogue, Dadisho' répondant aux questions - pas moins de 291 dans l'état originel du texte - de ses frères. L'ouvrage est divisé en deux grandes parties : la première, comportant 108 questions et réponses (avec une lacune : la question 1 manque dans les manuscrits), couvre les trois premiers livres du Paradis (sous les noms de Pallade et de Jérôme), tandis que la seconde, bien plus développée, avec 183 questions et réponses, couvre les apophtegmes à proprement parler. Ce volume 626 est le premier des trois programmés pour l'édition intégrale du Commentaire ; il comporte l'introduction et la première partie du texte.
