In Nigeria, achieving a substantial reduction in youth unemployment and poverty is an attainable goal if the government steps up to the challenge and creates a conducive environment for small businesses to prosper. This book utilizes a convergent mixed-methods design to explore how entrepreneurship can be leveraged to address the pressing issues of youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. The study employs the theory of planned behavior as its theoretical framework, which posits that young people's inclination towards entrepreneurship depends on their attitude towards it, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral controls. To examine the factors influencing the entrepreneurial intentions of young Nigerians, the research collected quantitative data from 447 graduating students at a federal university in Southern Nigeria. The study employed the structural equation modeling partial least squares (SEM-PLS) procedure to analyze the data and test hypotheses. The findings reveal a significant relationship between the attitude towards entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial intentions of Nigerian students (β=0.632, t=6.298, p<0.001). Additionally, the study identifies a significant relationship between subjective norms and entrepreneurial intentions (β=0.166, t=2.396, p=0.017). These results suggest that the education system and the influence of significant others can shape the entrepreneurial intentions of young Nigerians. The qualitative segment highlights key themes that have contributed to the exacerbation of youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. The study identifies the degraded state of the educational system, inadequate physical infrastructure, and prevailing insecurity as the most prominent factors. Drawing a connection between infrastructure provision, security, and entrepreneurial growth, the study recommends that the government foster an enabling environment that nurtures small businesses. By doing so, Nigeria can make significant strides towards drastically reducing youth unemployment and poverty. This book underscores the importance of leveraging entrepreneurship to address the challenges of youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. The study reveals the significance of attitudes towards entrepreneurship and subjective norms in shaping the entrepreneurial intentions of young Nigerians. Furthermore, it emphasizes the critical role of the government in providing an enabling environment for small businesses to thrive. By implementing these recommendations, Nigeria can pave the way for a future with reduced youth unemployment and poverty.
