Description

Therapeutic Parenting with PACE is a comprehensive resource designed for training and supporting those who work with and care for young people who have experienced the damaging effects of abuse, neglect and disruption to the primary caregiver relationship. Based on proven course materials and presented as a 12-session group programme, the pack gives an overview of the core concepts of developmental trauma, the provision of trauma-informed therapeutic care, and self-care for carers. Reading materials, video clips and skills exercises support and reinforce each area covered. The underpinning model is Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP), an approach which allows carers to get beneath the defences and blocked trust of children in their care. The training supports carers' capacity to provide therapeutic care through developing their understanding of the needs of the children they care for and supporting them in the development of an attitude of Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy (PACE). By training participants to understand and respond to the impact of developmental trauma on children, Therapeutic Parenting with PACE aims to help reduce the spiral of failed relationships suffered by so many young people who have been removed from their birth families.
