About the Author Julie B. Wiest is Professor of Sociology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and Senior Crime and Media Editor for the Emerald Studies in Media and Communications series. Her research primarily focuses on the sociocultural context of violence, mass media studies, and the relationship between new media technologies and social change.
