This volume presents the proceedings of the workshop ‘Archeologia a Firenze: Città e territorio’, organized by CAMNES, Centre for Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Toscana, in April 2013. This event experienced an extraordinary participation by experts in the field, and resulted also in a significant success in terms of public archaeological awareness. Almost twenty years after the exhibition ‘Alle origini di Firenze’ and the publication of its Catalogo, which is considered a signal point in Florentine archaeology, the workshop provided an opportunity for discussion between all those who conducted research, protection and enhancement of the archaeological heritage of Florence thanks to the presentation of the most recent excavations. Moreover, the origins of the city that took the leading role during the Renaissance were discussed, finding in its roots the very reasons for its glorious destiny. The sessions, organized in chronological order – from prehistoric to medieval topics – were supplemented by contributions concerned with conservation and enhancement of the historic landscape whose reconstruction through research and excavation activities constantly requires new discussions and often additional reflections.,Il volume raccoglie gli atti del workshop ‘Archeologia a Firenze: Città e territorio’, organizzato dal CAMNES, Centre for Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies, in collaborazione con la Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Toscana, nell’aprile 2013. Un evento che ha registrato una straordinaria partecipazione da parte degli addetti ai lavori, ottenendo un rilevante successo anche in termini di archeologia pubblica tra la cittadinanza. A quasi vent’anni dalla mostra ‘Alle origini di Firenze’ e dalla pubblicazione del relativo Catalogo, considerato un punto fermo sull’archeologia fiorentina, il workshop, anche grazie alla presentazione degli scavi più recenti, è stato un’occasione di confronto fra chi svolge attività di ricerca, tutela e valorizzazione del patrimonio archeologico fiorentino, nel quale sono state approfondite le origini di una città che ha certamente vissuto da protagonista la stagione del Rinascimento, ma che nelle sue radici trova le ragioni stesse di questo destino glorioso. Le sessioni, articolate attraverso un percorso cronologico – dalla preistorica al periodo medievale – sono state integrate da contributi relativi a progetti di valorizzazione di una realtà storica antica sulla cui ricostruzione le attività di scavo e di studio impongono costantemente nuove discussioni, riflessioni e, non di rado, ripensamenti.
