The Korthals Griffon is one of the few breeds that has had a history carefully recorded from the very start. The breed first started with the breeder Eduard Karel Korthals who was born on November 16, 1851 in Amsterdam. Korthals’ time as a young man was spent with a dog hunting in the many fields and marshes just off the dikes in Holland. His passion for hunting with dogs led him into what would be the focus of his life to develop the ultimate foot hunting companion. Barbara Young’s passion for this breed has caused her to focus almost 40 years of her life protecting and promoting this amazing breed in the USA and around the world. This historical reference book details the interesting development of the Korthals Griffon as well as how to develop a successful breeding program as written by an American Korthals Griffon Master Breeder who has begun so many other breeders’ breeding programs with her puppies worldwide. Over 400 pages detail the history of the breed by country from the very beginning to the current time. Learn how this remarkable breed developed despite many challenges and set backs. Included is the early development of the breed – country by country, comparison of breed standards starting with the first written by Korthals, starting a breeding program, evaluating a puppy, field training, grooming – and lots of pictures where you can see the development of the breed over time. This book assembles in one place over one hundred years of history and summarizes information that would take a lifetime to research including nine appendices of reference data.
