Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a structured psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR integrates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy with bilateral stimulation of the brain, often through eye movements or other forms of rhythmic left-right stimulation.
