Description
Therapeutic endoscopy is an endoscopic procedure during which a treatment is carried out using an endoscope. Diagnostic endoscopy can become therapeutic in case of upper gastrointestinal bleeding or for finding polyps during colonoscopy. Disorders such as strictures, bleeding and polyps are some of the disorders treated endoscopically. Some of the different types of endoscopic therapy include injection sclerotherapy, endoscopic haemostasis, dilatation, stenting, argon plasma coagulation, polypectomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, etc. Significant research and development is being undertaken in clinical and therapeutic endoscopy for the treatment of Barrett's oesophagus, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and gastric stapling.
