About the Author Robert Stanley Oden is a professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Sacramento. He received his doctoral degree in sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his master’s degree in community environmental management from the U.S. International University. Dr. Oden is a former Black Panther Party member and has been active in progressive community politics in San Diego, Berkeley, Oakland, and Sacramento. He is the president of the University of California Davis African and African American Alumni Association. He is currently a professor at Sacramento State University.
