Description

Product Description This book develops a critical analysis of how the USA has deployed various imperialistic devices within international law in order to expand its zone of influence on a global scale. The work then sets out a suggested theoretical framework highlighting an alternative regionalist model of international law and relations founded on Carl Schmitt’s controversial Grossraum theory". The authors use the comparatively new regional structure of the SCO as an extended case study and reference point for testing the credibility and limits of the theory. The authors address the question of the future potential and prospects for a suitably revised Grossraum approach to the study of international law and relations that has had to be substantially modified to better accommodate the realities of how the SCO is currently evolving and is structured. This text sets out, for the first time in an English language work, a comprehensive account of Schmittian Grossraum theory based on a wide range of published sources in both English and German. The analysis breaks new ground in that no other work has attempted this critical task within the field of international law and relations. This interdisciplinary book is aimed at students and academic researchers of regional studies, international law and relations, jurisprudence, international politics, political theorists and policy think tank bodies. About the Author Michael Salter is Professor of Law at Lancashire Law School. He teaches and researches on war crimes trials, international criminal law and jurisprudence, and European and international human rights. He has published extensively on the involvement of intelligence officials in the war crimes trials process.
