Description

This volume offers an insight into contemporary communication studies, as seen through the lens of qualitative research. It presents existing studies on qualitative research, current research programs, and trends for future expansion of this methodological approach. It also offers a series of practical examples of applying methods and techniques of qualitative research, to teach readers about the social world and to answer pressing problems related to applied communication. In terms of research, the studies within the book use focus-group interviews, in-depth interviews, qualitative content analyses, critical discourse analyses, and dispositif analyses. The volume covers areas such as education, public relations, advertising, strategic communication, heritage and museum management and intercultural dialogue. It will be a useful aid for students of qualitative research in the social sciences and humanities, but also for professionals in the field of communication. About the Author Corina Daba-Buzoianu is Associate Professor at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Romania, teaching image studies and crisis communication. With a PhD in the Epistemology of Image, she has studied qualitative research in communication at post-doctorate level. Her research interests include image studies and social representations, identity-alterity relationship, crisis communication, and qualitative research in communication. Monica Bîră is Lecturer at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Romania, where she teaches image studies and crisis communication. She defended her PhD thesis at the University of Bucharest with a study on national identity and the social construction of heritage. Her research is focused on social representation and the way public interaction is shaping cultural heritage, constructing representations of the past and/or influencing the definition of otherness. Alina Duduciuc teaches social psychology and applied psychology, as a Lecturer at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Romania. She has a PhD in Sociology, and completed her post-doctorate studies in communication science. Her research focuses on analysing different types of persuasive communication, such as advertising, branding, social campaigns and public health communication, with a social psychology approach. George Tudorie is Assistant Lecturer at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Romania, where he teaches philosophy and academic writing. He received his PhD from the Central European University, Hungary, where he defended a thesis on explanation in psychology. He is interested in the philosophy and history of the social sciences and medicine.
