This book offers a comprehensive survey of descriptions of Constantinople written by visitors, from the pilgrims of the Middle Ages to the European travellers and diplomats of the 18th and 19th centuries. The author examines the evidence these accounts provide for the history of the city, and for monuments which have long disappeared.
