Description

Clinical Chemistry focuses on the laboratory diagnosis of the most common diseases by organ system and relates diagnostic testing to the pathophysiology of the diseases in development of the differential diagnosis. Essential analytical methodology for interpreting test results is fully integrated into discussions.The second edition includes additional material such as newer cardiac biomarkers soluble ST2, galexin-3, CD 146; hepatitis testing (A, B, C, D, E); use of high-resolution serum protein electrophoresis; procalcitonin; tumor markers such as neuron-specific enolase and KRAS mutation; estimated glycated hemoglobin and glucose "time in range" for monitoring glucose control; identification of specific islet-cell antibodies in type 1 diabetes mellitus; discussion of all types of diabetes mellitus; and more drugs for therapeutic monitoring (lithium, methotrexate). Current reference intervals and nomenclature have been used throughout, and additional summary tables have been added where appropriate. New clinical cases are included in every chapter.
