Description
Product Description First published in 1999. Routledge is an imprint of Taylor & Francis, an informa company. Review "...new and necessary examination of Lakota history that could stand outside the rest." -- Janna Knittel, Indigenous Nations Studies, Unversity of Kansas From the Author Comprehensive book covering the Ghost Dance and much more. Greetings. Anpetu waste! While you may find parts of my book on Culturicide and the Lakota fairly technical for social analysts, such as chapters 2 and 3, you will also find comprehensive historical and anthropological information that hardly exists anywhere else in one volume. The Ghost Dance of the 1890's and Wounded Knee, for instance, are shown to be high conflict with intentionally started violence by the United States. The 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty is shown to be the key document still driving ongoing claims by and attempted repression of the new Lakota leadership over issues of sovereignty. And, I provide first-hand knowledge of how the recovery indeed the resurrection of the SunDance has been a key source of strength by Native resistance forces, and hopes for the future. I do want to apologize for the cost of the book, since it is being distributed as an academic source text. Perhaps we will get around to writing a simpler, more direct work soon. Unitl then, I hope you have the opportunity to wrestle with the ideas and models for understanding Native Nations and Peoples that I present. O-Midakuye Oyasin.
