Description
Product Description Heterogeneous Photocatalysis: Relationships with Heterogeneous Catalysis and Perspectives highlights the differences between thermal-catalysis and photo-catalysis and indicates borderlines, in particular, the possible synergism between them. The book outlines the basic aspect of thermal- and photo-catalysis, along with the most important characterization techniques. In addition, it presents case studies of thermal-catalytic and photo-catalytic or thermal-photo-catalytic reactions and includes a comparison between the results obtained using an inorganic solid as thermal catalyst and photocatalyst for the same reaction, and in the same setup. Final sections offer information on the preparation methods of (photo)catalysts, various techniques used for their characterization, engineering and economical aspects. This book will be a valuable reference source for students and researchers involved in heterogeneous photocatalysis and catalysis, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, environment engineering, nanotechnology and green chemistry. Provides selective methods for the preparation of microcrystalline/nanocrystalline solids or films used in catalytic and photocatalytic processes Describes (photo)reactions that can be carried out catalytically and/or photocatalytically Outlines the different mechanisms, yields and experimental conditions under which photocatalytic reactions can take place Describes various (photo)reactors and set ups under which the photacatalytic reactions can be carried out Provides an economic assessment to understand the feasibility of some photocatalytic reactions Review Highlights the differences between thermal-catalysis and photo-catalysis, but also indicates the possible synergism between them About the Author Prof. Eng. Giuseppe Marcì obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Palermo. The scientific activity of Prof. Eng. G. Marcì has been mainly focused in the field of heterogeneous photocatalysis with various topics. In particular he is mainly interested in the preparation, characterization, and photocatalytic activity of various kinds of photocatalysts. Prof. Eng. Marcì is a co-author of 106 scientific papers published in national and international journals, 1 patent, and 200 papers in proceedings of national and international congress. Leonardo Palmisano is Professor of Chemistry at the Engineering School (Ingegneria dell’informazione e modelli Matematici, DEIM) of the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy. He obtained his degree in Chemistry cum Laude in 1973 at University of Palermo. He is a member of Italian Chemical Society, American Chemical Society and fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). His research has focused in the field of heterogeneous photocatalysis and his papers or chapters of books deal with various topics concerning preparation, characterization with many bulk and surface techniques, and testing of various types of bare and doped polycrystalline photocatalysts. He has been the coordinator of many national and international research projects (bilateral projects with Spain, India and Egypt) and he has obtained financial support by the UE (European Union) to carry out experiments at Plataforma Solar of Almeria (Spain) by using solar photoreactors. He has collaborated with many scientists all over the world producing more than 300 joint papers in international journals and books and many papers in proceedings of national and international conferences.
