Prior to this, he was Head of Research Strategy and Planning at the Sports Council from its founding, and active in the Council of Europe and what is now the Countryside Recreation Network. He edited Examining Sports Development (Routledge, 2008). He is currently Professor of Sports Development at the University of Gloucestershire, and still active in the new Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
