About the Author JAMAL SHAHIN is a Researcher in the Department of European Studies at the University of Hull, working on the impact of the Internet in a European context. He teaches on courses dealing with European political economy since 1989, and the political economy of information and communications technologies. Recent publications include The Internet: A Case Study for Global Governance (1999). MICHAEL WINTLE is Head of European Studies at the University of Hull. His current research interests are in European identity and especially the visual representation of Europe, European industrialization, and the modern social and economic history of the Low Countries.
