Description

Product Description Behaviour of Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse gives in-depth and up-to-date quantitative and numerical analysis of building structures against progressive collapse. It does so at various levels, including bare steel joints, composite joints and sub-assemblages and frames under quasi-static loading conditions. The book provides analysis of the force transfer mechanisms of composite structures and reinforced concrete structures, along with detailed numerical models that shed light on the effects of critical parameters on progressive collapse resistances. It includes direct design methods that take into account various collapse-resisting mechanisms. The collapse of the World Trade Center in New York has spurred extensive experimental study and numerical analysis of the structural behavior of buildings under progressive collapse scenarios. Although design guidelines have been published by governments, most are missing up-to-date numerical and experimental results, quantitative accounts of force transfer mechanisms, and numerical guidelines. Review Gives in-depth analysis and numerical modeling for building structures against progressive collapse, including analysis of force-transfer mechanisms, and more From the Back Cover The collapse of the World Trade Center in New York has spurred extensive experimental study and numerical analysis of the structural behaviour of buildings under progressive collapse scenarios. Although design guidelines have been published by governments, most are missing up to date numerical and experimental results, quantitative accounts of force transfer mechanisms, and numerical guidelines. Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse gives in-depth and up-to-date quantitative and numerical analysis of building structures against progressive collapse. It does so at various levels, including bare steel joints, composite joints and sub-assemblages and frames under quasi-static loading conditions. The book provides analysis of the force transfer mechanisms of composite structures and reinforced concrete structures, and detailed numerical models that shed light on the effects of critical parameters on progressive collapse resistances. The title also includes direct design methods taking into account various collapse-resisting mechanisms. This book is a key reference for progressive collapse analysis, and for the design of building structures, and supplements existing guidelines. About the Author Bo Yang is a Full Professor in the School of Civil Engineering, at Chongqing University, China. He obtained his PhD from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), in Singapore. His expertise includes experimental tests and numerical modelling of steel and composite structures under progressive collapse scenarios. Dr Shao-Bo Kang is an assistant professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China. He obtained his PhD in 2016 from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His area of research includes experimental and analytical study on progressive collapse of reinforced and precast concrete structures. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute and serves as reviewers for Journal of Structural Engineering, Engineering Structure and ACI Structural Journal. Dr. Kang Hai TAN is a professor in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a Specialist Professional Engineer in Protective Security. He is a member of the Housing Development Board of Civil & Structural Engineering Advisory Panel and serves as Deputy Chair of the Institution of Engineering Singapore for Infrastructure Cluster. He is also the Chairman of the Appeals Advisory Board for the Infrastructure Protection Act. Dr. Tan works on fire and blast effects on structures and progres
