Description
Product Description Strategic Perspectives in Solid Waste and Wastewater Management explores conventional and advanced biotechnologies for waste management, including socio-economic aspects, techno-economic feasibility, models and modeling tools, and a detailed life-cycle assessment approach in solid waste (SW) and wastewater (WW). These innovative technologies are highly applicable to current real-world situations. The enormous increase in the quantum and diversity of SW and WW - including waste materials generated due to human activity and their potentially harmful effects on the environment and public health - have led to increasing awareness about an urgent need to adopt novel technologies for appropriate management of both SW and WW. While there is an obvious need to minimize the generation of wastes and to reuse and recycle them, the technologies for managing such wastes can play a vital role in mitigating problems. Besides recovery of substantial energy, these technologies can lead to a considerable reduction in the overall waste quantities requiring final disposal, which can be better managed for safe disposal in a controlled manner while meeting pollution control standards. Review Examines the role of innovation in technological intervention in SWM and WWM, including proper implementation and a global business model From the Back Cover The enormous increase in the quantum and diversity of SW and WW including waste materials generated by human activity and their potentially harmful effects on the general environment and public health have led to increasing awareness about an urgent need to adopt novel technologies for appropriate management of both SW and WW. While there is an obvious need to minimize the generation of wastes and to reuse and recycle them, the technologies for managing such wastes can play a vital role in mitigating the problems. Besides recovery of substantial energy, these technologies can lead to a considerable reduction in the overall waste quantities requiring final disposal, which can be better managed for safe disposal in a controlled manner while meeting the pollution control standards. Strategic Perspectives in Solid Waste and Waste Water Management provides basic knowledge and information regarding conventional and advanced technologies, socio-economic aspects, techno-economic feasibility, models and available modelling tools and detailed LCA approach in SW and WW. These innovative technologies and novel prospective in both sectors are applicable to real current situations. The book highlights 1) The conventional and advanced treatment processes both in SW and WW field 2) Information regarding recovery of Value-Added Materials in the sector of SW and WW 3) Models and available modelling techniques in the sector of SW and WW 4) The global case studies, opportunities and challenges (technical constraints, Institutional constraints and social constraints) associated with the management in the sector of SW and WW 5) Application of LCA and considerations in economic evaluation of solid waste and waste water treatment processes About the Author Dr. Sunil Kumar is a Principal Scientist and Head of Technology Development Centre at CSIR- -NEERI, Nagpur, India. Dr. Kumar is a Ph. D in Env. Engg. and has extensive experience in the field of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management. He has published more than 100 research papers and carried out several research/consultancy projects in the field of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management. Rakesh Kumar acquired qualifications of Environment Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1987. He then pursued work on developing technologies for automobile pollution control, which also led to a Ph.D.in Environment Engineering. Dr. Kumar's experience includes a wide range of environment science and engineering field, such as: Air Pollution Control and Management, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Hazardous & Municipal Waste Ma
