Description

Experience a foundational work of minimalism with Music with Changing Parts from Sub Rosa. Written in 1970, this composition explores free instrumentation where musicians select their parts from eight staves in the score. As the music progresses, performers switch parts at specific cues, creating sudden changes in orchestration. The piece utilizes melodic material based on a limited number of notes. These notes repeat in patterns that expand or contract, while the shifting instrumentation provides constant sonic contrast. This release offers a deep look into the techniques that helped Philip Glass renew his musical language through rhythmic and melodic repetition.
