Description

Experience a mythical blend of soul and boogie with Got To Be Me on vinyl by Soundway Records. This unique record features the work of Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Rick Asikpo, captured in 1981 at River City Studio in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Originally released only in Nigeria, this collection brings a long-lost sound to a wider audience. The music blends Earth, Wind and Fire inspired boogie with layers of synths, creating a distinct Texan and Nigerian sound. Asikpo, who began his career with the Black Artist collective The People's Workshop in Houston, delivers a soulful performance that serves as a missing link in the genre. This vinyl release is a must-have for collectors of R&B, soul, and global boogie music.
