Description

Experience a significant chapter in American chamber music history with this Sony Classical box set. Following the successful reissues of the ensemble's Epic and RCA Victor albums, this collection brings together the earliest recordings of the Juilliard String Quartet. These landmark sessions were captured between 1949 and 1956 at Columbia's legendary studio on Manhattan's 30th St. Most of these recordings are being presented on album for the first time, offering listeners a rare look at the ensemble's formative years. Founded by William Schuman at the Juilliard School in 1946, this group was designed to be both a training ground for elite conservatory students and a premier public performing ensemble. This set provides an essential addition to any classical music collection, preserving the sound of one of the most important American string quartets during their early development. Whether you are a longtime fan or a student of chamber music, these historical recordings offer a deep connection to the roots of the Juilliard tradition.
