Description

The Baroque Double Bass Violone by Scarecrow Press offers a deep examination of a historical instrument that nearly disappeared from musical repertoires during the nineteenth century. As traditional parts were shifted to instruments like the violoncello, the violone fell out of use due to a lack of physical evidence and research. This comprehensive study addresses those gaps by examining a cross-section of standard works to aid contemporary research. It serves as a vital resource for musicologists and performers seeking to understand the historical uses of the double-bass and its many variations. This book provides the necessary information to support the ongoing revival of the instrument in classical music settings.
