Scarecrow Press Historical Dictionary of the Coptic Church - Reference Guide

The Historical Dictionary of the Coptic Church provides comprehensive coverage of one of Christianity's oldest traditions, tracing its origins to Saint Mark in the 1st century through to the present day. This reference work explores the Coptic Orthodox Church's rich theological heritage, spanning over 19 centuries of biblical scholarship and religious texts. The dictionary documents the church's evolution across Egypt and the Middle East, whilst addressing the significant diaspora that has seen hundreds of thousands of Copts settle in North America and Australia during recent decades. Part of the Historical Dictionaries of Religions, Philosophies, and Movements Series, this volume serves as an essential resource for scholars, students, and readers seeking authoritative information on Coptic history, theology, ecclesiastical practices, and the community's contemporary challenges and contributions to global Christianity.
