This scholarly collection marks the twentieth anniversary of the foundational Testimony work, assembling leading academics across multiple disciplines to examine how testimony functions in law, politics, literature, and society. The book explores testimony's critical role in relation to Truth Commissions, human rights discourse expansion, and contemporary cultural discussions surrounding perpetrators of violence. Contributors from varied fields analyse testimony as a form of witnessing with distinct applications and significance, offering fresh insights into how testimonial narratives shape legal proceedings, political discourse, and literary expression. Part of the Routledge Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Literature series, this volume bridges legal scholarship, political theory, literary criticism, and cultural studies to provide a comprehensive examination of testimony's evolving meaning and societal impact in the twenty-first century.
