Description

Following Freud's death in 1939, Melanie Klein's radical theories ignited intense debate within the British Psychoanalytical Society, sparking passionate arguments and political manoeuvring that would shape psychoanalysis for decades to come. The Freud-Klein Controversies 1941-45 presents the first complete record of these pivotal intellectual exchanges, documenting the personal animosities, theoretical positions, and practical decisions that emerged during this transformative period. This New Library of Psychoanalysis volume captures the full scope of the controversy, offering scholars and students of psychoanalytic theory invaluable insight into how foundational disagreements between Freudian and Kleinian approaches were resolved and what lasting impact these debates had on the discipline's development.
