Description
Explore the complex literary world of Oscar Wilde through this specialized study by Jarlath Killeen. Published by Routledge, this work examines Wilde's two major collections of children's literature: The Happy Prince and Other Stories (1888) and A House of Pomegranates (1891). While these stories are often viewed as being at odds with Wilde's reputation as an amoral aesthete, Killeen provides the first full-length analysis of these texts. The book argues that Wilde's fairy tales are not strictly conservative or subversive, but rather a blend of both elements. By placing these works within their specific literary traditions, this study offers a new perspective on how Wilde's children's stories function within his broader body of work.
