Routledge The Ethics of Intelligence: A New Framework - Routledge

This book addresses a critical gap in intelligence studies by proposing a systematic ethical framework for intelligence operations in the 21st century. Starting from the premise that the field of intelligence currently lacks comprehensive ethical review, the author develops a coherent approach based on harm assessment and Just Intelligence Principles. The work responds to calls from academic experts and intelligence professionals for clear guidelines on when, by what means, and to what ends intelligence activities are ethically justified. Recent controversies including reports of abuse at detention facilities have underscored the urgency of establishing professional standards. This volume offers a structured examination of ethical responsibilities within intelligence collection and analysis, providing both theoretical foundations and practical considerations for practitioners and scholars navigating complex operational and moral dilemmas in contemporary security environments.
