Routledge Silence and Silencing in Psychoanalysis - Clinical & Research Perspectives

This comprehensive book offers the first major treatment in recent decades of silence and silencing within psychoanalysis, combining clinical and research perspectives with insights from philosophy, theology, linguistics, and musicology. The work examines silence and silencing across three distinct levels: providing foundational context through phenomenology, theology, linguistics, and musicology; exploring silence's position within psychoanalysis itself, including its types and meanings such as resistance and countertransference dynamics; and addressing silence's role in contemporary Western society. Published by Routledge as part of the Relational Perspectives Book Series, this volume integrates theoretical frameworks with practical clinical applications, making it essential for psychoanalysts, therapists, researchers, and scholars seeking to understand the complex functions of silence in therapeutic settings and beyond.
