Routledge Russian Environmental Politics: State, Industry and Policymaking

This comprehensive analysis examines how environmental policymaking functions within Russia's complex political landscape, challenging the conventional narrative that presidential authority alone shapes policy outcomes. The book investigates Russia's environmental challenges stemming from its vast wilderness areas and economy centred on extractive industries, which pose significant pollution risks. Rather than portraying Putin as the sole decision-maker, the author reveals how environmental policy emerges from competing interests across Russia's bureaucracy, influential industrial sectors, and state apparatus. Published by Routledge as part of the BASEES/Routledge Series on Russian and East European Studies, this work provides essential insight into the interplay between governmental institutions, industry stakeholders, and policymaking processes that determine environmental protection outcomes in Russia.
