Description
First published in 1987, this Routledge guide opens Wordsworth's poetry to new readers and those seeking to understand his enduring literary reputation. The book examines how Wordsworth crafted his distinctive poetic voice, revealing the creative process behind his most celebrated works and exploring why his innovative approach to language and structure continues to resonate with scholars and students alike. Rather than presenting finished poems as fixed texts, this analysis traces how Wordsworth's constant revision sometimes diminished the original inspiration and freshness of his verse. The author demonstrates Wordsworth's daring use of words and poetic form, helping readers appreciate the unique qualities that distinguish his work within English Romantic literature and establishing why his contributions remain fundamental to understanding literary history.
