Routledge Masculinities in Contemporary American Culture - Routledge

Masculinities in Contemporary American Culture presents a multidisciplinary, intersectional examination of male identity through theoretical and applied perspectives. This Routledge text combines current research with historical context to trace how masculine identities have evolved within contemporary American society. The book emphasises popular culture including film, television, video games, and music to explore how different media forms engage with and perpetuate concepts of toxic masculinity. Students and scholars will find this resource invaluable for understanding the complexities of gendered representation, examining their own sensibilities about masculinity, and critically analysing the cultural messages embedded in entertainment media. The intersectional approach allows readers to consider how race, class, sexuality, and other identity markers intersect with constructions of masculinity across various cultural texts and contexts.
