Ethnic Inequality in the Northeastern Indian Borderlands examines the complex relationship between symbolic violence, inequality and ethnicity in one of India's most diverse regions. Using the Limbus as a detailed case study, this scholarly work analyses how small ethnic groups experience unequal integration into state structures. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's influential concept of symbolic violence, the author demonstrates how the ethnicization process has systematically devalued Limbu cultural identity whilst simultaneously constructing and naturalizing it. This pioneering study contributes significantly to anthropological and sociological understanding of identity formation, state power and ethnic marginalisation in South Asia's borderland communities.
