Description

Double Burden: Black Women and Everyday Racism provides a necessary perspective on the lives of contemporary Black women. While many studies rely on outdated 19th-century stereotypes that characterize Black women through negative lenses, this work offers a different approach. By moving away from traditional characterizations used by social scientists, this book presents a more accurate look at the lived experiences of Black women today. Built upon the foundation of over 200 interviews, the text uses a collective memory conceptual framework to examine how Black women navigate and interpret their surroundings. It explores how they cope with racial barriers that are not of their making. This book is an essential resource for students and researchers interested in anthropology, ethnography, and social sciences, offering deep insights into the social realities and coping mechanisms of Black women in modern society.
