Description

Deconstructing the Bible provides a deep look into the life and work of Abraham ibn Ezra (1089-1164). As a scholar in the Routledge Jewish Studies Series, this book is the first attempt by a single author to place this great Spanish Jewish Hebrew Bible exegete, philosopher, poet, astronomer, astrologer, and scientist in his full contextual environment. The text tracks his travels and examines changes in his hermeneutic approach. It explores his vision for the Jewish people in the Christian north of Europe compared to Muslim Spain. Readers will gain insight into his influence on subsequent Jewish thought and his role in the wider hermeneutic debate. This work is a significant addition to the study of biblical commentary and Jewish history.
