Description
The Routledge Companion to the Study of Local Musicking is a recipient of the 2019 Society of Ethnomusicology Ellen Koskoff Prize for Edited Collections. This scholarly work explores how musicking constructs locality and how locality is shaped by the musical activities within it. By examining how people engage with ideas of community and place through music, this book provides a cross-cultural reference for understanding these connections. The text focuses on the concept of musicking, which refers to the diverse ways people engage with music regardless of the nature of that engagement. By linking these practices to the local, this Routledge publication offers deep insights into the relationship between musical engagement and geographic or social identity.
